Course Description

This course will serve as an introduction to the ethical questions that arise in health care, biological science and biological research.  We will consider the following topics throughout this course: killing and letting die, euthanasia, medically-assisted suicide, allocation of health care resources, experimenting with human subjects, confidentiality, physicians and truth-telling, informed consent and autonomy, and special issues for nurses in health professions.  We will also evaluate the ethical theories and ethical frameworks that ground our arguments and assumptions with the hope that we come to some understanding about how difficult decisions in the realm of health care are and should be made.
